Village of Greenwich - Decision to Dissolve the Village of Greenwich Justice Court

Decision to Dissolve the Village of Greenwich Justice Court

This week at a public meeting to discuss of the Village of Greenwich 2023-24 budget, the Village Trustees voted to dissolve the Village Court. The decision was made after revisiting the issues and examining the budgets over a number of years. Budget data reveals that the Village has been running the Court in the red for the past number of years.

The Board feels that this decision makes sense for the community, since it will consolidate and simplify services, making them more efficient. Legal matters will be heard in the two respective towns—Easton and Greenwich. The confusing situation of having two courts across the parking lot from each other will be solved.

The Court will remain in operation through the end of the current term, the last day of March, 2024. At that point, all open cases will be transferred to the respective Town Courts in Greenwich and Easton.

The decision is subject to a permissive referendum. Please see the notice below, and if you have questions, call the Village Clerk Jane Dowling at 518-692-2755 x 100.
